Ruckus Hub Help

Everything you need to get connected, request movies and shows, and fix the little stuff yourself. Start at the top if you're new.

Getting connected

There are two ways in. Most people set up both: the direct connection when you're home, and the remote connection when you're out. The direct connection requires me to whitelist your IP address to allow access.

Direct · at home
Fastest, most reliable. Use this on your home network.
Host
https://direct.ruckushub.com
Port
9004
Remote · away
Works from anywhere. Use this when you're off your home network.
Host
https://remote.ruckushub.com
Port
9002
Important: type the host exactly as shown, including the https:// at the front. Leaving it off is the most common reason a connection fails.

Set it up

  1. For the direct connection: connect your phone or computer to your home Wi-Fi and send me your IPv4 address from whatismyipaddress.com so I can whitelist it. Make sure you're not connected to a VPN when you check. (Skip this step if you're only using the remote connection.)
  2. Install the Emby app on whatever device you'll watch on. On a PC, I recommend the Windows Store Emby app. You can also simply watch in a browser at app.emby.media.
  3. Open the app and skip the first sign-in screen — go to the manual connection screen instead.
  4. Enter the host and port from one of the cards above, exactly as written. Add both if you want home and away covered.
  5. Log in with the username and password I gave you.
Is it down?

Server status

Before asking if something's wrong, check status.ruckushub.com. Both Emby connections are monitored around the clock and updated every minute.

Can't connect, but the status page says it's online? If the direct connection specifically won't work, hop onto your home Wi-Fi and send me your IPv4 address from whatismyipaddress.com so I can update my whitelist. If the remote connection or neither are working, it may be a DNS issue I'll need to troubleshoot with you. In that case, reach out to me directly.
Adding movies & shows

Requesting media

Want something that isn't on Emby yet? Ask for it at request.ruckushub.com.

Search for what you want. If it's not on Emby yet, it shows up in the Discover tab as requestable. If it's already here, the search shows it as available to watch instead. You can also report a problem with a movie or episode from this site.

If you can't find what you're looking for on the request site, reach out directly and I'll see if it's available.

Requests are shared. Once one person requests a movie or show, everyone else sees that same request status — so no need to double up if it's already been asked for.

What the status means

PendingRequested — waiting for me to start it.
Requested / ApprovedIt's downloading.
Available to watchDone — it's on Emby and ready.
DeclinedI couldn't fulfill this one.

Good to know about timing

Showing up on the Discover page doesn't mean something's available yet. New releases usually take around 45 days to come out digitally after their theatrical run.

Once you've requested something, I fulfill it as soon as I can. Movies are typically 1–3 days, shows 1–7 days. Older media generally takes longer.

Add it to your phone like an app

iPhone: open request.ruckushub.com in your browser, then tap Share → More Options → Add to Home Screen → Open as Web App.

Android: open the site in your browser, tap the menu (usually in the top corner), then tap Add to Home screen and confirm.

What's on here

Libraries

There are four libraries. You can sort any of them by Title / File Name, Release Date, Date Added, Ratings, and more.

Movies

Sort by Movies to see every film listed individually, or switch to Folders to see grouped folders at the top where I've bundled some movie series together above the individual movies.

Shows

Nothing special here — just keep it on the Shows tab.

Stand-Up Comedy

A library dedicated to stand-up comedy specials.

Live TV

60% of the time, it works every time. The guide isn't functional, so you have to click into channels to see what's playing. Some channels work fine, some are buggy, some don't work at all. I haven't cared enough to nerd out on this one, but it's kind of cool.

Good things to know

If a movie or episode has two versions, it's usually a resolution difference. Standard (720p or 1080p) is the default; 4K is labeled in the version name. You'll also see the codec and subtitle info listed next to each version.
Click on any actor or actress to see what else they're in that's available on Emby.
Watch offline

Downloads

You can download media in the Emby app to watch offline and I allow it. But, please read the information below.

It won't show download progress, and on airplane mode the app can take a while to load to your downloads. Media appears in your Downloads once it's actually finished.
Don't download a ton at once; a handful of movies or one season of a show at a time works best.
Please delete downloads when you're done with them. They take up space on my server. I may clear out old ones occasionally, which removes them from your device the next time it connects to Emby.
Make it yours

Tips & settings

Worth doing once. Open settings by tapping your user icon in the top-right corner and choosing Settings.

Set your look

In Display settings, pick a theme — Blue Radiance is a good one — and turn on backdrops for the full-art background. Poke around the rest while you're there; it's all yours to adjust.

Dial in quality

While something's playing, open the settings wheel to adjust the bitrate — turn it down if you're buffering, up if you want maximum quality.

Quick fixes

Troubleshooting

Most hiccups have a fast fix. Try these before reaching out.

The fix that solves most random glitches

Back out of what you're watching and resume it. That one move clears most odd issues — no video, won't load after a pause, subtitles not showing after you picked them, and similar. Try this first.

No voices / dialogue is missing

Go to your account settings and change the audio output to Stereo. This fixes the "everything but the talking" problem, which comes from surround audio not mapping to your speakers.

It keeps buffering

While playing, open the settings wheel and lower the bitrate. A lower bitrate needs less bandwidth, which smooths out buffering. Bump it back up later if your connection can handle it.

Subtitles are out of sync

After you've selected a subtitle file, you can offset it by milliseconds in the subtitle settings to line it up with the audio.

Can't connect at all

First, check the host was typed exactly right — with https:// at the front and the correct port. Then check the status page to see if the server's actually up. If it's the direct connection failing while status shows online, see the note in the Server status section about sending me your home IP.
